Challenge

Halo’s product was gentle and its brand was not. Screens borrowed the blue-and-white language of every health startup, patients described the experience as clinical, and the clinical team described it as consumer. Two audiences, one identity, pulling in opposite directions.

Strategy

We built the system around the moment someone opens the app at 3am, not the moment it gets shown on stage. That reframed every decision: quieter colour, larger type, fewer choices per screen. Naming and tone of voice came out of the same principle, and got tested with real patients before anything was signed off.

One family, three weights, a palette with room to breathe, and an illustration set drawn to explain rather than decorate. The system covers the product, the clinical portal and print — with the component library living where the engineers already work, so there is no second source of truth.

Outcome

Support tickets about navigation dropped by a third in the first quarter. Clinicians stopped asking for a separate interface. Halo’s team now ships new flows straight from the library, and the brand holds together in places we never designed for.
